ABOUT MOTION PICTURE ARTISTS

A Club with a Purpose

Motion Picture Artists of America was founded in October of 2022 by filmmakers Stan Alger, Mark Yirrell and Kristin Simpson. A small band of young, ambitious creatives who after years of witnessing fellow storytellers struggle under the weight of the traditional entertainment industry norms, felt a calling within the business of which they were a part to make an impact for good. Taking inspiration from the great historical goliaths that came before them, the young group chose to adopt a more classic name for their organization, believing it to channel just enough of a balance between familiarity and old fashioned quality to be something special in the modern day.

Abbreviated to the acronym M.P.A, the organization's leaders penned the following mission statement: To provide a home for the free artists of motion picture entertainment. A community not only willing to embrace, connect and support one another in the name of the creative arts, but a place where one may also be at liberty to network and pursue their artistic passions to the fullest. To be a part of a family that chooses tolerance over discrimination and free expression over censorship.

In the time since its founding, M.P.A has grown into a community of artists from all over the continental United States, from independent filmmakers in the rural mid-west to established Hollywood magic makers in Los Angeles.
